What it is like
A shrub. It has a tuberous root. The stem is stout and erect. It grows 1 m high. The stem is 1 cm across. There are only a few leaves. The leaf blades are 15 cm long by 4 cm wide. They taper to both ends. The flowering shoots are at the top of the plant.
There are about 200 Rumex species.

It is a subtropical plant.
