What it is like
An annual grass. It forms tufts. The stalks are 14-120 cm long. In water it forms spongy stems. The leaf blades are narrow and 550 cm long by 5-12 mm wide. The flower stalks are 5-35 cm long.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. In Nepal it grows between 600-1,500 m above sea level.
