What it is like
A screwpine. It is a densely branched shrub. It grows 1-4 m tall. It has prop roots. The leaves are long and narrow. They are 2.5 m long by 4 cm wide. There are spines along the edge. Male and female flowers are on separate plants. The individual nuts are 4 cm long in groups forming a flattened round head 9-12 cm across.

A tropical plant. It grows in lowlands.
