What it is like
A robust palm. It grows 5-6 m high. The trunk is 25-30 cm across. The leaves are 3-4 m long. The leaflets are arranged irregularly. The base of the leaves is fibrous and remains on the trunk. The flowering stalk is 2 m long. The fruit are oval and 3-4 cm long by 2.5 cm wide. The seeds are oval and 2-2.5 cm long. They are oily.
It is an endangered species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows between 1500-2500 m altitude. It grows in deciduous forest.
