What it is like

A tree. It grows 12-15 m high. The trunk is 30-50 cm wide. The leaves are opposite and divided like fingers on a hand. They are hairy. The leaf stalk is 5-9 cm long. There are 5-7 leaflets. They taper to the tip. The leaves are 13-15 cm long by 3-5 cm wide. The flowers are in groups at the end of branches. The fruit is fleshy with a hard stone inside. It is oval or round. It is 1.5 cm across. It has an unusual smell. There is 1 seed.

Also put in the family Verbenaceae.


Where it is found

It grows in tropical and subtropical places. In Bolivia it grows below 600 m altitude.
