What it is like
A tree. It grows 8-10 m tall. The branches are blackish brown. The leaves are greyish green and oval or oblong. They are 4-10 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. There are many flowers in a group and the flowers are 7-8 mm across. The petals are white. The fruit are blackish-brown and oval. They are 5-6 mm across.

It is a temperate plant. It grows on sandy coasts and among rocks. It also grows in mixed forests between 1,000-3,800 m above sea level. In Melbourne Botanical gardens. In Sichuan and Yunnan.
