What it is like
A shrub. It grows 1 m tall. The leaves are alternate and 8-12 mm long by 5-9 mm wide. They are thick and leathery. The flowers are white and bell shaped. They are in clusters at the ends of the twigs. The fruit are dry capsules.
There are about 170 Gaultheria species.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows in alpine shrub between 900-1,700 m sea level.
