What it is like
A small herb that keeps growing from year to year. It forms clumps. It grows 30 cm high and spreads 25 cm wide. The stem is erect and flowering. The leaves are sword shaped and green with paler green spots. They have long leaf stalks and are arranged in a ring at the base. The flowers are pink but change to blue. They are tube shaped but widen.
There are about 14 Pulmonaria species. They are temperate.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It will grow in most soils and most positions. It is resistant to frost but sensitive to drought. It suits hardiness zones 6-9.
