What it is like

A wiry shrub. It grows 1-2.4 m high. It spreads 60 cm wide. The branches are densely linked together. The leaves are small and in groups of 2 or 3 on short side stems. The flowers are small and occur in clusters. The fruit are small and cream and let the light through. The seeds are black.

There are about 23 Muehlenbeckia species.


Where it is found

It grows naturally in drier lowland areas in New Zealand. It suits hardiness zones 8-10.
