What it is like
A creeping herb. The leaves are round. The base is heart shaped. They are 4-6 cm across. The leaf stalk is 5-7 cm long. The flowers occur singly. They are white and in the axils of leaves. The fruit is 1-2 cm long by 1 cm across. They are orange. There are many seeds.
There are about 200 Lycianthes species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows to 1000 m altitude. In Argentina it grows between 500-1,400 m above sea level. It grows in shady places.
