What it is like

A stout herb. It develops tubers under the ground. The plant grows 50-60 cm high. The stem may be simple or branched. It is 12-15 mm thick at the base. It has purple marks. It has straight or twisted wings along the stem. The tubers are small and oval with a white skin. There is purple pigment near the eyes. The leaves have an odd number of leaflets. The leaves are 12-18 cm long by 7.5-8.5 cm wide.


Where it is found

It grows in the warm humid lowlands of Peru. It grows in areas with a rainfall of 2,000-3,000 mm per year.
