It is a warm temperate plant. In Chile it mostly grows between 500-2,000 m above sea level. It grows in somewhat dry areas. It is in areas with a winter rainfall of 400-800 mm. It can tolerate some shade. It suits hardiness zone 9. It can tolerate some light frost.
