What it is like

A scrambler or woody climber. It grows 2-10 m high. The young parts have brown hairs. The leaves are oval. The blade is 4-12.5 cm long by 2.5-6.5 cm wide. The leaf is smooth and shiny on the upper surface and coarse and hairy underneath. The leaf stalk is 0.5 cm long and hairy. The flowers are dull yellow and hairy. They are 2-2.5 cm across. They occur either singly or in pairs. They are 3 cm long stalks. The fruit are oblong and hairy. They are 2.5-3 cm long by 1.5-2 cm wide. They are orange when ripe. The contain 2 or more brown seeds.

There are 3-4 (10) Melodorum species.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows on sandstone country in monsoon forest. They are near freshwater streams.
