What it is like

An onion family plant. A bulb plant. The roots are long and thick and fleshy. The bulbs are clustered. They are 1.5-2 cm across. The leaves are band shaped to long sword shaped. They are 2-3.5 cm wide. The flower head is half round. It has leafing bulblets.

There are about 300-700 Allium species. Most species of Allium are edible (Flora of China). All alliums are edible but they may not all be worth eating! They have also been put in the family Alliaceae.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. It grows by stream banks and slopes between 1000-1200 m altitude in Emei Shan in Sichuan in China.
