What it is like

A herb that keeps growing from year to year. It has a thick woody rootstock. The stems are 7-30 cm long. The leaves are narrow and thick textured. They are 6-28 mm long by 1-5 mm wide. There are clusters of younger leaves in the axils of the leaves. The flowers are in a 4 sided arrangement.

There are about 350 Scutellaria species.
