What it is like

A herb. It keeps growing from year to year. There are underground stems. The above ground stems are erect and 50-100 cm high. They sometimes branch near the top. The leaf stalk is 0-2 mm long. The leaf blade is 3-11 cm long by 0.4-1.5 cm wide. There are teeth along the edge. There are 6 flowers in a ring. They are purple.

There are about 300 Stachys species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. In China it grows on wet grassy areas near riverbanks. It grows between 200-1700 m altitude in northern regions.
