What it is like

A tree. It is mostly small but can grow up to 15 m tall. The leaves are alternate and oval. There is a red swelling on the base of the midrib. Leaves are about 10 cm long by 3-5 cm wide. The flowers are in clusters in the axils of leaves. Male and female flowers are separate but on the same plant. The flowers are small and without petals. The fruit is a capsule with 6 lobes. They are 4 mm across. The seeds are 1.5-2 mm long.

There are about 300 Glochidion species.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows naturally in evergreen forest.
