What it is like
A shrub. It can grow 2-5 m high. The leaves are opposite. They are narrowly oval and 4-6 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. Young leaves are hairy underneath. The flowers are white and in clusters. The fruit are red and turn white when fully ripe.
Also put in the family Caprifoliaceae.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It can tolerate drought. In north China it grows in forests between 600-1,400 m above sea level.
