What it is like

A tree. It grows 10 m tall. The young branches are dark red. The leaves are narrowly oval and 6-15 cm long by 4-8 cm wide. They are hairy when young. There are 5-12 flowers in a cluster and they are about 2 cm across. The petals are white. The fruit is red or yellow and oval. They are 1-2 cm across.

There are about 35 Malus species and very many cultivated varieties.


Where it is found

Temperate. It grows in mixed forests between 1,400-3,500 m above sea level. In Sichuan and Yunnan.
