What it is like

A bamboo. It grows to 9 m high and 1-3 cm across. It grows in clumps. The internodes are about 20 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The sheath of the stem has a narrow tip and long blade. The stems droop at the tip. The leaf blades are sword shaped and 10-20 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. They taper to the tip.


Where it is found

It is a subtropical plant. In Nepal it grows between 1800-2200 m altitude. It grows in open places. It can grow in light shade.
