What it is like

A vine or scrambler. The stems can be 10 cm across. The young growth is shiny. The leaves are simple and 5-21 cm long by 6-8 cm wide. The edges can have teeth or be entire. The flowering stalk is 10-30 cm long. They are in the axils of leaves and hangs down. The flowers are small and green. The fruit is 4-8 mm across. These hang in panicles up to 30 cm long. There are several very small seeds inside. The fruit are edible.

There are about 200 Maesa species. They are mostly tropical. They are also put in the family Maesaceae. They are also put in the family Myrsinaceae.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows naturally in rainforest in NE Queensland. It grows between 650-1,200 m above sea level.
