What it is like
A shrub. It has many branches. It can grow 6 m tall. The stems are slender and are covered with hairs. The leaves are small and alternate. They are narrowly oval or sword shaped. There are teeth near the base. They are 2-10 cm long and 1-4 cm wide. The flowering shoots are in the axils of leaves. The fruit are small, round and yellow. They are 2.5 cm across.
There are about 200 Maesa species. They are mostly tropical. They are also put in the family Maesaceae. They are also put in the family Myrsinaceae.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Indonesia it grows in high mountain regions.
