What it is like

A shrub. It grows 1-3 m tall. It often grows from a woody tuber 30 cm across. The leaves are broadly oval and 6-15 cm long by 4-10 cm wide. The flowers are in a congested group of 4-10 flowers in the axils of the leaves. The fruit is 1 cm across and dark blue-black.
