What it is like

A shrub. It forms a fattened tuber. Branches 3 m long arise from this. The leaves are oval and 3-8 cm long by 1.5-4 cm wide. The flowering shoots have 1-5 flowers and are in the axils of leaves. The fruit is a round berry 10-15 mm across. It is white and lets light through.

It is a tropical plant. It mostly grows between 1,600-2,900 m above sea level.
