What it is like
A tree. It grows 10 m tall. Young parts have velvety hairs. The leaves are arranged alternately. The leaves are broadly oval and 20-50 cm long by 12-21 cm wide. There are small teeth along the edge. The leaf stalk is attached to the lower surface of the leaf. The flowers are yellowish green. They are in long panicles in the axils of leaves. There is one round black seed in a round capsule. It is 4-5 mm across.
There are about 280 Macaranga species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in low country in the wet zone. Deccan.
