What it is like

A shrub or small tree. It grows about 7 m high. The leaves are alternate and oblong to sword shaped. They are 13-30 cm long by 4-8 cm wide. They are pointed at both ends. The flowers are in groups in the axils of leaves. They are star shaped and light pink. The fruit is round and fleshy The fruit are black. They are 1 cm across. There is one seed.

There are about 250-300 Ardisia species. They are mainly in the tropics. Also put in the family Myrsinaceae.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It can grow up to 1,000 m altitude.
