What it is like
A tree. It grows 15-20 m tall. The leaves are 5-13 cm long by 1-5 cm wide. They are oblong or sword shaped. They taper to the tips. The stalks are 1 cm long. The flowers are 7 mm long. Male and female flowers are separate. The fruit is 1.5 cm long.
There are about 300 Garcinia species.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in secondary and dense forests. It grows on limestone and in the lowlands and up to 1,500 m above sea level.
