What it is like

A herb. It keeps growing from year to year. It grows 20-80 cm tall. The stems can be erect or clambering over nearby vegetation. The leaves have a simple tendril. The leaves are compound with 1 or 2 pairs of leaflets. The leaflets are 35-80 mm long by 5-8 mm wide. The flowers are purple to blue. The pods are 3-5 cm long.

There are about 150 Lathyrus species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. In northern China it grows below 2,500 m above sea level. In Sichuan.
