What it is like
A small shrub. It may grow for one or more years. It grows about 50 cm high. The leaves are compound and have 7-11 leaflets with one at the end. The flowers are in groups. The fruit are fleshy and dark red with a stone inside. They are 15 mm long by 7-8 mm wide. The fruit are green but turn dark red, purple or black as they ripen.
Where it is found
It is a subtropical plant. It grows on sandy soils. In Namibia it grows below 1,550 m above sea level. It can grow in arid places.
