What it is like
A woody climber. The leaves are compound. They are 1.5-7 cm long. There are 3 leaflets. These are oblong and rough. They are slightly hairy on the upper surface and yellowish on the lower surface. They are 5-15 cm long and 1.5-6 cm wide. The flower arrangement is a group of stalks with flowers arranged along them. These are produced in the axils of leaves. They are 15-20 cm long and with a reddish flower stalk. The petals are dark purple. The fruit is a pod which is oblong. It is 8 cm long by 1 cm wide. There are 8 seeds. These are 5 mm across.

A tropical plant. It grows naturally in deciduous and dry evergreen forests.
