What it is like
A ginger family herb. It keeps growing from year to year. It grows 2 m tall. The stems are robust and leafy. The leaves and sword shaped and 24-35 cm long by 2.5-5.5 cm wide. The fruit is like a berry. It is round and 1.5 cm across. It is red and hairy. It has soft prickles 2-3 mm long over its surface. The seeds have ribs.
There are about 150 Amomum species. They are mostly tropical.

A tropical plant. It grows in the forest up to 650 m altitude. It grows in Java.
