What it is like

A tree. It grows 30 m tall. The trunk is 1 m across. The leaves are elliptical and heart shaped at the base. The flowering shoots are 10-45 cm long. They can be at the ends of branches or in the axils of leaves. The fruit are fleshy and 4-5 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. They are black when ripe.
