What it is like
A tree. It can grow 5-30 m high. The trunk is slender. It is 40 cm across. The branches are horizontal. The outer ring of flower sepals are brown with a few hairs and dull greenish yellow inside. The fruit are on branches below the leaves. They are yellow to brown. They are softly hairy. The aril or layer around the seed in bright red.
There are about 120 Myristica species. They grow in the tropics.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It can grow in dense or open forest. In Fiji it can grow between 30-1,150 m altitude.
