What it is like

An erect prickly herb. It grows 1 m high. The leaves are oval and 10-15 cm long by 10 cm wide. There are thorns on the veins on both sides. The leaves are purplish. The fruit is a round berry. It is 2 cm across. They occur as 1-3 together in the axils of leaves.

There are about 1400 Solanum species.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows in secondary vegetation and up to 1,500 m above sea level.
