What it is like

A small tree. It grows to 15 m high. The trunk is 10 cm across. The leaves are thickly papery. They are oblong or sword shaped. They are 16-28 cm long by 6-10 cm wide. The edges of the leaves are parallel. They taper to the tip. The tip can be cup shaped. They are hairy in the veins underneath. There are 6-13 pairs of secondary veins. The leaf stalk is 3-9 mm long. The flowers occur in 1-4 hanging panicles. These are 12-85 cm long. The flowers have dark red petals. The fruit are rounded. They are shiny and dark red.
