What it is like

A spiny shrub. It grows to 1.5 m tall. It has many branches. The branches are slightly grooved. The leaves do not have leaf stalks. They occur in clusters. They are 0.5-2.5 cm long by 0.2-1 cm wide. They are spoon shaped with a rounded tip and narrowed towards the base. They have 3 pronged spines. There are teeth with spines towards the leaf tip. The flowers are yellow.

There are about 450-500 Berberis species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. They grow in Nepal at 3000-4000 m altitude.
