What it is like

An onion family plant. A herb which grows up to 25 cm high. The leaves and long and narrow but round in cross section. The flowers are pink when young then turn white. They are clustered at the end of the stalk.

There are about 300-700 Allium species. Most species of Allium are edible (Flora of China). All alliums are edible but they may not all be worth eating! They have also been put in the family Alliaceae.


Where it is found

In Nepal it grows from 200-4500 m altitude. It grows in open, moist rocky places.
