What it is like

A tree. It grows 8-35 m high. The trunk can be 45 cm across. The branches are long and stiff. The leaves are large, entire and leathery. They are alternate and have a rounded base. The flowers are in small groups in the axils of leaves. They are greenish yellow and have a scent. The fruit is narrowly oval and fleshy with a stone inside. It is 2.5 cm long. They are red when ripe.

Also put in the family Alangiaceae.


Where it is found

It is a tropical plant. It grows in rainforest up to 1,830 m above sea level in Indonesia. It is usually below 500 m.
