A tree. It grows 12 m tall. The flower panicles are short but covered with long rusty hairs. The flowers do not have stalks. The flowers are large. The fruit is 1 cm across. It is red with long rusty coloured hairs. There are calyx lobes at the top. The pulp is edible.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in rainforest and upland secondary forest. It is common along creeks and rivers.
