What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 10 m high. It has short spines. The leaves are oval and have a shallow notch at the tip. They are 3-8 cm long. There are 5-7 pairs of side veins. The flowers are white. They have a scent. They are in simple clusters. The fruit has 4 cells and is 2 cm across. There is one seed.
The name Atalantia monophylla has probably been conserved and may not be a synonym of the previous.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It suits deep medium acid sandy soils and shallow calcareous soils. It can grow up to 1,000 m above sea level.
