What it is like

A herb. It grows each year from seed. It grows 40-70 cm tall. The stem is erect and usually has a reddish colour. The leaves are alternate and leaves higher up are smaller. The leaves are broadly oval and 3-14 cm long by 3-7 cm wide. They are hairy underneath. There are teeth along the edges. The flowers are in groups of 4-10 and are purplish.

There are about 850 Impatiens species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. In north China it grows near streams and canals between 1,000-1,100 m above sea level.
