What it is like

A shrub or tree. It grows 15 m tall. The leaves are in clusters of 3-5. The leaf blade is narrowly oval and 5-8 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. The fruit have 11-13 follicles. They are 13-17 mm long by 6-10 mm wide and 3-4 mm thick. The seeds are 6-7 mm long by 5 mm wide.

There are 34 Illicium species. There are 3 species in tropical America. Also put in the family Illiciaceae.


Where it is found

It is a tropical plant. It grows in forests and thickets in southern China between 700-1,700 m above sea level. In Yunnan.
