What it is like
A tree. it grows 5-8 m high. The trunk can be 40 cm across. The bark is grey-brown. The small branches are angular or square. The leaves are alternate or almost opposite. The older leaves are 14-16 cm long by 6-7.8 cm wide. The leaves on new growth are 6.5-8.5 cm long by 3-4 cm wide and thin. The flowers are yellow-green. The fruit is oval and 1 cm long by 0.9 cm wide.
There are about 250 Cinnamomum species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in southern China in evergreen broad-leaved forests between 630-700 m altitude.
