What it is like

A bulb plant. The bulb can be 7 cm across. The plant grows 90-250 cm high and 25-30 cm wide. It forms roots on the stem. The stems are tall and arching. The flowers occur as 10-20 together. They are suspended on horizontal stalks. They are orange with black spotting among warty outgrowths.

There are about 100 Lilium species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. It is frost hardy. It needs neutral to slightly alkaline soil. In China it grows on mountain slopes between 700-1000 m altitude in N China. It suits hardiness zones 5-9.
