A tree. It grows 7-20 m high. The stem has red sap. The leaves are alternate and simple. They are hairy underneath. The flowers are 2 mm across. They are green to yellow. They occur in groups. The fruit are 2 cm long and orange to red. The seeds have an orange fleshy layer or aril around them.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in forest on alluvial soils. It grows from sea level to 600 m altitude. It is common along streams. It grows on sandy and clay soils. It grows in Borneo.
