What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 1-7 m tall. The leaves have 2-6 leaflets with one at the end. The flowers are in small groups at the ends of the branches. The fruit is round, black and fleshy. There are calyx teeth at the top.
There are about 25 Sambucus species. Also put in the family Caprifoliaceae and family Sambucaceae.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in dense forests along rivers.
