What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 4-8 m high. The trunk has deep grooves. The leaves are opposite and entire. They are 4-7 cm long by 3-6 cm wide. They taper to the tip. The veins are easy to see. The flowers are white and occur in pairs. They have a scent. They are 15 mm across. The fruit is round. It is 2 cm across. The pulp juicy and with a characteristic odour. It is sweet and edible. There are 1 or 2 seeds.
There are at least 11 Campomanesia species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows to 1400 m altitude. It grows in areas with 1,000 mm rainfall per year. It grows in mountain savanna and secondary forest.
