What it is like
A shrub or tree. It grows 3-30 m tall. The trunk is 50 cm across. The bark is dark brown. The leaves are narrowly oval and 7-22 cm long by 2-6 cm wide. Flowers usually occur singly in the axils of leaves. The fruit are green and ripen to purplish-black. They are 8-13 mm long by 3-7 mm wide.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in the Amazon rainforest.
