What it is like

A small tree. It grows 18 m tall. The trunk is 1 m across. The bark is thick and blackish. It is cracked or has furrows. The leaves have 9-15 leaflets. They are velvety underneath. The flower catkins are 12 cm long. The nuts are large and 4 cm across. They are reddish-brown.

There are about 30 Juglans species. All species bear edible nuts.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in mountain forest. It grows between 1,000-2,000 m above sea level.
