What it is like
A pineapple like plant with a short stem and it is stout and erect. There are many leaves 60-80 cm long. They are 4 cm wide and more narrow towards the base. There are spines. There are many flowers in a group. The bracts are 5 cm long and with spines or teeth. The fruit is fleshy and edible.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. In Colombia it has been recorded at 3,900 m above sea level. It grows in the cloud forest.
